What do you think of the influence religion has on circision in today's western society?

Well, it is very, very normal now that most of the U.S. is Christian. I read once in an article, circision is not needed, but it can do lots to prevent infection in the male because they said if you remove that flap of skin, many STDs would not be spread. So, I'm sure there is also another reason other than religion.
