Is this the right or wrong way to punish a child?

My boyfriend has a 4 year old girl. This evening at dinner time, she would not sit still at her table. She ate only when told constantly to eat. Several times my boyfriend put her back to the correct seated position and instructed her not to move around and eat. When she did not listen, he told her that if she did not hold still and eat, she could not play after dinner. After dinner, he told her she could not play, so she went into her room and got her books and had a grand old time playing. After she had been put to bed, I pointed out the perceived error in his punishment technique. First off, he did not say what she should do instead of not playing for example, "You will not play, you will sit quietly for 10 minutes." Therefore reading her books, something she enjoyed to do, was fair game. My argument is that he should not have let her read her books. I say this because that is something she enjoys to do, Therefore during the period where she was being "punished" (by not playing) she just went and did something else she enjoyed doing, therefore diminishing the effectiveness of the punishment. She was able to do something she enjoyed doing (reading) even though she did not do what she was suppose to do (hold still while eating). My boyfriend argues that he will never tell her that she cannot read her books because he wants her to read. I think she should read, and should be allowed to read, but she reads with her father every night before bed. Therefore she should not be allowed to read when she is being punished because hes just letting her trade punishment for something else she likes to do. So what do you think? Is it wrong to use no access to fun things, even if it is reading, as a punishment? If he uses access to reading along with other fun things as a punish-er, will she stop reading? He argues that even if she ociates reading with punishment, even if his punishments become ineffective because she is allowed to read when shes being "punished" thats fine because he would rather her read than supposedly not listen or do what he is asking her to do.

Fluorescent vs. incandescent stairway fixture?

I'm going to add two stairway light fixtures on the top part of my ceiling for accent lighting (movie room). I have install a dimmer switch (I know I can't use this with a fl. bulb). Was wondering which would be a better choice for the price and lighting needs. I'd really like to go with the fluorescent, but the dimming feature is always nice. Plus, I figure eventually compact fl. bulbs will be dim-able or LED. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

it really really sounds like he likes you. you definately need to drop subtle hints to him. like if you have an upcoming dance or something, that you want to go with him. or maybe ask him to come over sometime and watch a movie. you should definately make plans with him so you can see if things can go farther than just friends.

Baby formula costs are killing me.?

My son goes through a large can of formula in less than 4 days. It costs me $28 for each can. The costs are killing me. I don't have a lot of money and it worries me. I try to feed him more baby food so that maybe he will drink less formula, but he isn't too keen on the food yet. he is 6 months old. How old do they have to be to have just regular organic milk? cause it would be so much less expensive. but i don't think that he is old enough. i applied for wic, but they said i will have to wait ATLEAST 3 more months cause the huge waiting list.

I have no background in medicine or health, but from a civilian's standpoint, I would tell the family. It can't hurt (unless there are some kind of legal issues involved...) and the deceased person's family should have as much information as possible in order to avoid a future problem.

I would accept that trade hands down. AP is going to do much better than ray rice in my opinion. Also ward and driver are pretty even. I honestly dont think you would be losing out either by giving up the steelers def. I would take the texans def over them this year as well. the texans have been building and are due for a break out year and i think their def will do very well. as for the steelers-their def burned me a few times last year when I had them and didnt produce as well as the year before. i think the steelers are not going to make a huge run this year and are falling apart a little. so take the trade.

I don't believe in silly hoaxes that have no basis in reality. Only gullible people do. There's no evidence that anything catastrophic will happen in 2012. It's all just ridiculous lies that scientists laugh at. Frauds invent hoaxes to make money usually, and there's a whole shelf of books about 2012 at Borders Books, the History Channel has shows about it, and a movie was made about it too. Some frauds are making lots of money from gullible people. I won't pay one lira for any such "balle" about 2012.

I don't want to take them away from home during the holidays. They are not his children. They came from my first marriage. I just don't think it is fair to them, but I feel it is selfish of me to ask him to stay away from his family. I also feel like they will be disappointed on Christmas morning, because I can't afford to buy as many gifts for them as the other children in his family there will receive.
